The Global Peace Index (GPI) captures the absence of violence or the fear of violence across three domains: Safety and Security, Ongoing Conflict, and Militarisation.
The world is now considerably less peaceful than it was at the inception of the index. Since 2008 the average level of country peacefulness has deteriorated 3.76 percent. There have been year-on-year deteriorations in peacefulness for nine of the last 12 years.
However, despite the overall deterioration in peacefulness, some indicators have recorded significant improvements over the past 13 years.
